Now the missions packs on the other hand had actual songs though. But there was really no music in the game besides the intro. If they ever bring back the whole products, i'd get them again then, otherwise I'll wait for the 75-80% off sale. It's not even worth the price in the current sale (which should be the actual "full price", imo).

They celebrate the "golden age of pc gaming" with titles such as Quake in a yearly event which is its namesake, you'd think they'd give a little dedication with periodic support to restore the titles to their former glory, or at least try to make them meet current standards (like other devs do with other old titles - KOTOR2 comes to mind) but no, they still can't even do a proper sale. In the case of Quake 1, the sad truth is that a huge part of what made that game great was the music. But I won't conform with that now with these digital copies in current distribution, not while they're being neglected like this. I can put up with looking for workarounds and scavening the internet for assets to make my original physical copies run better in current systems, or at least like they did back in the day.

It's certainly not worth the full price given the current state of its products, except maybe for Quake 3 which seems to be fine. I really was looking forward to get the whole quake pack to add to my steam collection during this sale but the lackluster discount was a huge letdown. The Nintendo 64 version is better than what you get with Steam.Ī huge company like Bethesda should not be alowed to just strip core elements out of a game, and sell it. I am a fan of Rob Zombie and of Trent reznor. This is the whole reason I bought the quake games. Most people remember the kick-ass sounds and music. And should not take more then 5 to 15 minutes to get it set up right. I agree with you 100% but even I know it's possible to get the game to work 100% with out any problems.

Those are only allowed to be played though Dosbox and not in other means unless you download a source port like Zandronum. Same goes for the other titles they release like Doom 1, 2, Master Levels and Final Doom.

It's an old game, and ID1 ain't gonna care enough to update the engine. There is also ways to play the game in it's original engine as well as having the music play and loop on the correct maps. Even though I find this not acceptable, there is source ports out there for those who wants to play this game in a modern computers. The game aged big time and they arn't gonna redesign the engine just to get it to work on newer computers. I was able to get entire soundtrack within 5 minutes after buying the game, it's simple, Legal? probably not. But it's not as bad as you make it out to be. I understand where your coming from, I truly do.

Seriously people, do not reward Bethesda for sodomizing classic old games like this. They are using the "Redbox CD information is not available with Steam DRM crap. They did the same thing to the Mission packs, and to all of the Quake 2 titles.Īpearently they did not want to pay the extra licence fees. Or you haev to download sound files that are illegally ripped from the original CD's and re-packed for Dark-places game engine. To put them back in and make the steam version's ambient sound work, you have to download illegal CD images.
